Productivity Hack
If you want to know how to maximize productivity to move your business forward here’s the best productivity tip:
Do the most important thing first every day.
It’s productivity made simple.
In fact, it’s so simple that no one does it.
James Clear, a productivity expert says…
“Productivity is getting important things done consistently…
Being productive is about maintaining a steady, average speed on a few things, not maximum speed on everything.”
The mistake most people make is to respond and react to the agenda other people have set for you, rather than for you to set the agenda for your day.
We end up all too quickly getting dragged down the rabbit hole of feeling the need to respond to
- emails
- text messages
- voxer messages
- whatsapp messages
- Facebook messages
- LinkedIn messages
- Slack messages
- comments on social media posts
- and the list goes on and on
EXPERT HACK: Highly productive people learn how to make the most important thing, the most important thing. They create a “sacred time” every day to work on their agenda.
How to Stop Wasting Time
President Eisenhower was well known as having been incredibly productive over his lifetime.
We can learn a lot about how to eliminate time wasters from his philosophy.
“What is important is seldom urgent and what is urgent is seldom important.” -Dwight Eisenhower
Eisenhower developed the world-famous Eisenhower Matrix which is a powerful tool for decision making and time management.
The matrix consists of four categories:
1. Urgent and important tasks – do these first
This includes anything that has a deadline, meetings that you are required to be at, emails and messages that require immediate attention and cannot wait.
2. Not urgent but important tasks – schedule these

Emailing your list, doing live video, daily tasks to move your business forward.
Exercise, meal planning and prep, grocery shopping, family time.
3. Urgent but not important tasks for you to do personally – to delegate
Examine where in your life you can ask for help and support maybe from your family or team members. Can you get your kids or your partner to pitch in more around the house? Can you hire a cleaning service? Get someone to mown the lawn or shovel the snow?
4. Not urgent and not important tasks – don’t do these
This includes scrolling through social media, surfing the internet, watching TV, playing video games, etc.

How to Overcome the Lack of Willpower
You want to be successful. You want to move your business forward. You want to be focused.
But you just don’t seem to have the willpower to do it.
You might be constantly asking yourself…
“What’s wrong with me? Why can’t I get anything done?”
Is it just a lack of willpower?
New research from Columbia University shows that small daily decisions have a significant impact on willpower.
It’s known as “decision fatigue”.
The more decisions you have to make, the more tired you become, and the more your willpower will dwindle.
I’m talking about simple moment by moment decisions that you make all the time, that you’re not usually aware of as “decisions”.
Decisions like:
- what to top to wear
- which socks to wear
- what earrings to put on
- what to eat for breakfast
- what word to use in this sentence
- should I make this list as bullet points, or just put commas between each item
- should I make this word bold or italics
- which thing should I do first
By the time the first hour of your day has gone by you’ve already made tons of decisions. Your brain is already starting to suffer from decision fatigue, which is draining your willpower.
When your willpower is fading it’s hard to get started on a project or stay focused on a task. Which means results in wasting time. Which creates a vicious cycle of more energy sucking, more decision fatigue, more lack of willpower, less productivity.
The research is clear. It’s not that you’ve got great willpower, or you don’t. Your willpower ebs and flows throughout the day with your levels of decision fatigue.
To reduce decision fatigue and increase willpower, which will decrease your time wasters and increase your productivity here are some hacks.
EXPERT HACK: Make decisions about what to wear, what to eat, and what your schedule will be for the next day the night before.
EXPERT HACK: Create schedules and routines for your life and your business to reduce the number of decisions you have to make.
Examples:
- Schedule your social media posts out for a week or a month in advance.
- Have a time scheduled each week when you turn off all distractions write an article.
- Set a routine that between 2:00 – 3:00 pm each day you do a live video, or write an email to your list.
EXPERT HACK: You’ll make the best decisions and have the most willpower when you’re rested. So take a break and have a healthy meal or snack before you sit down to focus on a project.
How To Get Motivated & Get Going Even When You Don't Feel Like It
Everyone of us, no matter how successful, will have days when we just don’t feel like getting going.
We can all take a lesson from professional athletes on this one.
Develop a “pre-game” routine.
When I’m dragging myself around and lacking in motivation I know exactly what to do to switch up my energy quickly.
I drink water, take six long slow deep breaths and do some type of quick physical movement. It can be as simple as marching in place for 60 seconds, or doing a quick 15-minute yoga routine, or the bounce and shake. (See the video for this.)
This is so simple, and it works!
EXPERT HACK: Create your own “pre-game” routine and do it every time you’re having trouble getting motivated.
Busting the Success Myth
There’s a huge myth that successful people do everything with excellence.
Not true!
I love the saying…
“You don’t have to be great to get started. But you do have to start to be great.”
Successful people start!
Successful people fumble.
Successful people get back up again.
Successful people fail.
Successful people start again.
Successful people hone their craft.
Successful people do ordinary things consistently.
Starting and consistency are the two things that separate successful people from people who aren’t successful.
