GASO stands for…

Grab Attention - Story - Offer

1.   Grab their Attention

2.   Tell them a Story

3.   Give them an Offer

Let’s go through this step-by-step and I’ll show you how it works and what to do.

STEP 1. Grab their Attention

The very first thing you need to do is grab your prospect’s attention. If you haven’t done that you’re toast! You’ve lost them before you even started.

Obviously, I grabbed your attention with the headline and subject of this or you wouldn’t be here right now.

The Secret To Grabbing Your Prospect’s Attention

It’s all in a subject line, headline or image that compels your prospect to stand up and take notice on by:

  • provoking curiosity
  • giving them a promise of something better, something you know they want
  • asking a question that draws them in
  • showing them “how to” do something or get something they perceive they need
  • giving away something for free, or a sale, discount, or big bonus
  • creating a sense of urgency
  • or… by fueling the flames of FOMO (fear of missing out)

Let’s take a look at how I drew you into this article.

The title of “Power Up Your Posting for Profits” implies a promise of profits.

In the subtitle I told you that I was going to show you “how to” get something that I know you want.

“How to get way more clicks and sales from your posts.”

Then I asked you a question to draw you in and subconsciously show you that you need what I’m about to talk about.

“Are your posts producing profits?”

Since I’m pretty sure the answer to that question is “no”, or at least “no where near as much as I’d like”… by asking the question I’ve had you confirm to yourself that you need what I’m about to offer you.

I went on to provoke curiosity by using this…

“Introducing the 3-Step GASO Posting System...”

I got you thinking “what the heck is GASO?”

I could have used the common, “old as the hills” version of hook-story-offer, but there’s no curiosity in that, so I came up with a new acronym to create curiosity.

I continued to pique your curiosity by saying…

  • “That practically writes itself.”
  • “It's as old as the hills.”
  • “Every great copywriter and funnel builder uses it, whether they know it or not.”
  • Now I’ve really got you thinking “What IS this?”

I then fueled the flames of FOMO with this line…

If you're not using this simple 3-step system to create every post, video, article and blog you're missing out on a lot of cash in the bank.

And I topped it all off with more promises of what I’m going to give you.

“Today you'll learn...” and I gave 3 bullets points of things you’re going to learn.

If you’re creating a simple post you’d use just one or two of these attention grabbing techniques.

Here’s an example of a headline that creates curiosity and asks a question.

“Are you prospecting and recruiting the Costco way?”

I recently saw this headline and it grabbed my attention and totally piqued my curiosity.

I had to go read the article because I wondered what it was all about.

I laughed at myself because I’d written it about a year and a half ago and couldn’t remember what the heck the story or the offer were.

STEP 2. Tell them a Story

A story can be just a sentence or even a phrase.

I told you a story at the beginning of this.

It started off with…

That practically writes itself.”

With that phrase I was telling you a story about the GASO system, how easy it is. I could have stopped right there with the story.

I embellished and added color to the story with this…

“It's as old as the hills.” – This conjures up a sense of the wisdom of the ages.

“Every great copywriter and funnel builder uses it, whether they know it or not.” – This adds a sense security, of being tried, tested, and true… all the greats are using it. It also creates a sense of FOMO. You don’t want to miss out on what all the experts are doing, do you?

"It works... but only if your target audience are human beings.” – This adds a bit of humor and a guarantee to the story.

If you’re doing a video or writing an email or article the story can definitely be longer than a phrase or one sentence.

You can tell a story about something that happened to you, someone you know, a celebrity, or something that happened in the news, or at a sporting event.

A testimonial or review is a great story.

A story can be as simple as sharing a quote. And in order for it to be effective, the quote has to be bracketed by something that grabs your prospect’s attention and an offer.

In your story you always want to appeal to your prospect’s emotions rather than their intellect.

Your story should propel your reader to take action. Nothing is as powerful as human emotion to move people to action.

You want your reader to be saying “I want that!”

STEP 3. Give them an Offer

Ask for the sale!

If you want prospects to take action you’ve got to tell them to do it.

You need a short, sweet, clear, powerful and compelling statement that tells your prospect what to do and how to do it.

Don’t let your prospect off the hook or they’ll watch your video, read your post, or email and fall right back into the mind-numbing, newsfeed scrolling state they were in before they saw your post.

Tell them what to do and why they’re doing it.
