Understanding your prospects’ needs starts with understanding human beings’ hierarchy of needs.
We can learn a powerful lesson about marketing, or selling, prospecting and recruiting, from Abraham Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs.
Maslow was a famous psychologist who developed a model which explains how we can most effectively communicate with our prospects.
He explained that man has basic needs that start at the most fundamental level with Physiological Needs – food, water, warmth, rest. These needs must be met first before a human being can even begin to think about the next level of needs which are Safety Needs – security and safety.
Each level of needs must be met before we can think about the next level of needs. See the chart below.
Ultimately, your prospect is looking for Self-actualization – achieving one’s full potential, including creative activities.
Viktor Frankl, an Austrian neurologist and psychiatrist as well as a Holocaust survivor, confirmed in his work, that finding meaning in life is the most fundamental driving force in man.
Helping Your Prospects Find Meaning In Their Lives Is The Key

Let me give you examples of the 3 Levels of Marketing Messages and how to use them in your posts, lives, emails, articles and blogs.
In this Level One Message I’m telling my prospect that I’m going to help them fulfill their basic needs. I’m going to how to build their businesses and grow their teams, implying that they will then make money, which will in turn enable them to pay the bills, have roof over their heads, put food on the table and have safety and security.
In this Level Two Message I’m going to help you create a brand and get your unique message to the world. This implies that all of your Level One needs will be met, PLUS your psychological needs will be met. By getting your unique message to the world you’re creating relationships and fulfilling your need for belongingness, love, esteem, prestige, and a feeling of accomplishment. Just imagine truly getting your message to the world. WOW!
How Do You Tap Into Level 3 – Meaning?
With this message I’m covering off the Level One needs by telling you you’ll get paid to do this work, so you’ll be able to meet your basic physiological needs.
I’m also covering off the Level Two needs by telling you your tribe will be called to you. When you have a tribe, your psychological needs for belonging, relationships and self-esteem are met.
And your Level Three needs of self-fulfillment and meaning are met because you’re going to really discover your unique calling and the greatest expression of you (self-actualization) - your Soul Signature. In addition to that, I’m telling you that you’ll find profound meaning in your life because you’ll be impacting and changing lives, and you’ll be using your creative expression in creating a business and a life you love living in every way.

Let’s say you’ve been through a journey of weight loss through a plant-based diet.
Level One Marketing Message:
