Probably more than any other question I get asked, “But how do you get out of a slump?”
To be perfectly honest, the best answer is to not GET into the slump in the first place! That might sound ridiculous, but that really is the key to success.
You see, every one of us is addicted to the chemicals in our brains.
Every thought we think produces a chemical in our brain.
And as humans, we think the same thoughts over and over and over again.
So we’re producing the same chemicals over and over again. So we get as addicted to the chemicals in our brains as we would be to cocaine. This is potent stuff!
The good news is we can change which chemicals we’re addicted to.
It takes consistency and discipline, but heck, I figure I’d rather be addicted to great feeling chemicals that crappy feeling ones.
I’ve literally trained my brain so that I rarely, and I mean RARELY, get into a slump. And on the very odd change I do get into a slump it doesn’t last long at all.
We’re talking minutes, not hours and definitely not DAYS!
This article was inspired because just last night I was asked, again, by a coaching client “How do you get out of a slump?”
She said that a couple of weeks ago she was in a funk for 5 DAYS and just didn’t know how to shake it.
I HIGHLY recommend meditating at least 5 times or more a week.
There’s tons of scientific proof of the benefits of meditating and calming the mind and body.
You don’t have to meditate for hours on end.
A 10 – 20 minute meditation can be very powerful.
Go here for some of my favorite guided meditations by Dr. Joe Dispenza that you can easily download. The Morning and Evening Meditations are each about 20 minutes.
Taking 3 – 5 really long slow deep breaths can do wonders for oxygenating the brain and body and changing your physiology.
Try the Triangle Breath. Inhale slowly and deeply through your nose for a count of 8 or 10. Hold your breath for the same count, and slowly exhale for the same count.
Be in the energy of appreciation.
Get out a journal.
Choose someone, some place, or something that you truly appreciate.
Set the timer on your phone for 5 minutes (or more) and just write anything that comes to you about what you genuinely appreciate.
It doesn’t have to be perfect, you can write the same thing multiple times if you run out of things to say, but just be in the energy of appreciate for at least 5 minutes.
This is a very conscious decision.
It’s a decision I make every day of my life.
I don’t compare today with yesterday.
I just DECIDE that today is the best day ever and I look for evidence throughout the day of how today is a great day.
It could be as simple as a yummy cup of tea.
A really good call with a client.
A tasty piece of chocolate, a beautiful view, an funny social media post.
I get to decide what makes this day great.
Even if you just take 5 minutes to get outside and breathe fresh air, soak up some rays of sunshine, smell the flowers, leaves, dirt, grass, etc.
This can quickly shift your energy.
Most of us don’t drink anywhere near enough water.
(Just grabbed my bottle now to get a few more glups in!)
I highly recommend good filtered water, rather than just tap water. But tap water is better than nothing.
And I always drink water that has been restructured with Source Energy Medicine.
Do some type of physical activity.
If you’re feeling like you’re in a slump make yourself get up and go for a walk, run, bike ride, or walk up and down several flights of stairs.
Go to a yoga class or do a few yoga poses or stretches at home.
And you’re having trouble prospecting, getting new clients or building your downline… here’s another FREE GIFT for you.
